Astroturfing
From Envirowiki
Astroturfing is the act of setting up front groups to make an anti-environment ideal appear to be supported by the community.
The name comes from the idea that these organisations make a movement appear "green," while actually being the exact opposite - just like fake plastic grass.
Astroturfing is a form of Greenwash
[edit] 1 Examples of astroturfing
- the RATs of Tooborac - an anti-wind power front group trying to appear like a genuine community group
- Timber Communities Australia - promotes logging
- the Australian Environment Foundation - set up to promote logging, and discredit the Australian Conservation Council
