Community refers to a social grouping of individuals, usually with a common purpose, or common frame of reference. Community is more qualitative than quantitative. Community can refer to groupings of all sizes - from the very small, such as housing communities with a few score people, to very large - the international community for instance. The term community is also often used as a symbol of anti-authoritarianism, kind of synonym for "the people", as opposed to the government or corporations.

Community is a highly held value by many on the anarcho/left/green side of the political spectrum, it is seen as the basic requirement for a socially just and environmentally sustainable society, and is closely linked to value such as altruism, and selflessness.
