About envirowiki

Helping Out

envirowiki is a space for practical and theoretical knowledge about all things environmentalism, social justice, and sustainability. It aims to create a usable database of information for people wanting to live more sustainably, or help create a more sustainable and equitable society.

Unlike Wikipedia, envirowiki makes no claim to be unbiased, it generally puts the environment and social justice first, and renounces any economic-rationalist ideas that money might have any higher value to society than the environment. That said, envirowiki strives to remain factually correct, and present arguments in a clear, rational, scientific manner. envirowiki aims to be a knowledge base for countrering the lies and misconceptions prevalent in the mass media.

[edit] Wanna help?

envirowiki has been set up recently and so it doesn't have a lot of information yet. If you want to change that, you can create and edit pages yourself. Simply click the "edit" tab at the top of the page you want to edit. Search for the page first, and if it isn't there, create it!

If you want to add stuff to envirowiki, but don't know what to add, check out Special:Wantedpages

envirowiki is run on Mediawiki, which is the software that runs Wikipedia, so most things are the same as there.

Unfortunately envirowiki is currently very australocentric, because it started in Newcastle, Australia. YOU can help fix that, by posting stuff about your campaigns in your area. the more the merrier!

[edit] How should this place operate?

It would be good to have some democratic input (like real democracy, not western "democracy"). If you want to help out, by coding, or giving suggestions, go straight to Envirowiki:Policy.
