Envirowiki:Skin

From Envirowiki

Jump to: navigation, search

there are a couple of things that need to be worked out for how Envirowiki wants to look. At the moment, it's using the "Monobook" skin, which seems extremely functional, but there are a couple of things that could be prettied up.

the theme is standard, with a few changes the can be seen here: MediaWiki:Monobook.css

[edit] 1 Colour scheme

currently the site uses the standard monobook skin, with the minor enhancments of the envirowiki logo, and the background image of the gum tree leaves. the colours for links and page edges are still standard, as is everything else. this can, of course, be changed.

do we need a new colour scheme? it might be good to move away from the blue and red links, as they are a bit bright. green would be on theme, but might be as ugly as hell. Might be worth using a [colour scheme maker] or something.

[edit] 2 the logo

does it need changing? it was a bit of a shoddy job, and might look better with more leaves. I'm probably going to do another one (-naught101) but I'd like feedback too.

I think a new logo is a good idea. Something a bit more professional... not that I'm volunteering, I don't know anything about that sort of thing. 150.203.2.85 00:44, 6 September 2006 (EDT)
suggestions would be good... how more professional? this obviously isn't a business.. --Naught101 01:53, 7 September 2006 (EDT)
Oh, I don't mean professional as in business-like, but I guess just something a bit more sombre -- the green glowing letters make me think more of cartoon toxic waste than calm leaf litter in the bush... but it's easy for me to critisise without doing anything, so maybe I'll have a go at some mock-ups? --User:Sam (sorry I keep not logging in).
I agree, the lettering is pretty toxic. maybe it'd be worth doing something by hand? or just vector based writing, like the Anvil Hill Campaign logo. originally, I wanted the "e" to be a leaf - a curly gum leaf. I actually found one a while ago that would ahve been perfect, but then I lost it. also got to think about colour scheme stuff - like on the New Main Page. --Naught101 05:40, 8 September 2006 (EDT)

[edit] 3 new front page

the new front page is currently under construction at New Main Page. check it out, comment, suggest, code, what ever. basically, it's a rip off - adaption - of wikipedia's very nifty front page.

[edit] 4 Potential collaboration

Would 'envirowiki.net' be interested in collaborating with another wiki, 'EnviroWiki'? There's no point having two environmentally-themed wikis and I think that there could be mutual benefits. Clearly the people getting involved in this project have a very good grasp of wikis and how to best utilise them. The benefits of the other EnviroWiki is that it is part of a wider campaign, Change is Coming and also has its own logo and branding. You can see the general branding at http://www.changeiscoming.org.uk/wiki although the EnviroWiki logo is not yet online. I don't know if there is a leading team within this project, but if anyone is interested, please get in touch by emailing me at becky@NOSPAM.changeiscoming.org.uk.

  • hey Becky. Firstly, I think there is at least ONE good reason to have multiple enviro-themed wikis - Diversity. I would probably see being tied to a campaign as detrimental to this envirowiki (envirowiki.info), as it's intended to be as broad and inclusive as possible. Of course, it definitely could be a benefit in terms of getting people involved, so good luck with the Chic envirowiki. I'm definitely interested in collaborating, feel free to give me ideas. I can add your wiki to the interwiki links table, and will as soon as I get time. --Naught101 02:58, 20 December 2007 (EST)
